Tennessee has no central records clearinghouse. Use the record type and county to reach the office most likely to hold the file:
- Deeds and liens: contact the Register of Deeds in the county where the land lies; start with Tennessee public records
- Trial or probate files: contact the clerk where the case began; statewide appellate history is linked under Tennessee court records
- Birth, death, marriage, or divorce certificates: follow the state and local routes for Tennessee vital records
- Registration status or voter-file questions: use the Tennessee voter registration resources and county commission directory
- Staff, license, property, and historical lists: choose among the Tennessee people directories
- Offline government files: submit a focused Tennessee Public Records Act request to the actual custodian
